8 Coats Worth the Closet Space

If every mile is two in winter, according to George Herbert, it is the perfect excuse to don a lovely new coat and elevate your winter style game.

After being pregnant for most of the last 4 years, I found my coat collection to be seriously lacking going into the snowy, cold Northern Illinois winter. It literally wouldn’t matter what I am wearing most winter days–the only thing people will see is my topper! As required somewhere in Midwest fashion law, I did have the requisite black North Face mom puffer, but that was my only coat that wasn’t too small after having two kiddos. Sixty-ninety days is a bit long to wear the same thing every day without it adding to the collective seasonal affective disorder that hits us all toward the end of January, so I wanted to add some variety to my winter wardrobe this year. After Christmas is the perfect time to buy–the sales are really good! Some also come in petite and tall sizing too.  I’ve settled on the 8 winter coats that are worth my precious closet space:

1. The bright coat

2. The red coat (totally a different category than "bright")

3. The pastel coat

3. The pastel ladylike coat (similar)

4. Dressy long black coat

5. Bright puffer (safety first!)

Nordstrom Rack is having an amazing sale on coats right now, so I linked a few more worth checking out. Fleurette is one of my all time favorite coat brands for light, soft, warm, luxurious cashmere-blend coats. If you’re into fur/faux, I suppose we could make the argument for 9 coats. I just haven’t found a perfect faux fur coat, and my vintage fur from my grandmother is definitely out of stock by now! If anyone has a great faux fur to share, please let me know–I have just enough space for it. xo, Karen
